Common Council Members
Hello my name is David Sutfin. This is my first venture in public office. I look forward to serving the residents in the First Ward. I am a lifelong resident of Hornell, living most of that on Thacher St. Since 2013 I have been a member of Steuben County SCOPE. I have been a board member and treasurer for the past 8 years. Protecting the second amendment as well as all of our Constitutional rights has been a top priority for me. My hobbies are hunting, gardening, and searching for ancient artifacts. My wife Arlene and I raised three daughters in Hornell. Hopefully we will keep making Hornell better and better for future generations.
I’m John and I’ve been serving on the Council since 2005. I have continuously served on the Finance Committee, as well as Audit (Chairman 16 years) and Planning & Development (Chairman 8 years) Committees. I am also a member of the Hornell IDA for the past 8 years, serving as Secretary and Chairman of the Audit Committee. I am looking forward to renovations at Veteran’s Park to include pool, tennis courts, and playground, as well as seeing DRI projects come to fruition. I’m proud to operate two businesses in Hornell and am grateful to serve our community as Alderman.
Hello! I’m Christina and I’ve had the honor of being the 2nd ward Alderwoman since January 2022. I currently serve on the Law & Ordinance, Audit and Youth and Recreation Committees. Helping residents resolve issues has been the most rewarding aspect of my time on the Council, thus far. I also love supporting our first responders and sharing with my children the importance of giving back to our community. In my spare time, I enjoy doing genealogy, cruising, and spending time with my husband and two children.
I’m Joe McKay and I was elected as Alderman in November of 2022. Prior to that I had the honor of serving from 2014-2019. I am currently the Chairman of the Law and Ordinance Committee and serve on the Finance and Youth and Recreation Committees. I decided to run for Common Council to serve my community and set an example for my children. I feel that in order to make a difference you must be involved. My interests are golf, fitness, jiu-jitsu, spending time with family and being my daughters’ biggest fan!
I’m Steve Peck I was elected as the Alderman for the Fourth Ward in November 2023. I have lived in Hornell for 23 years and brought my daughter up in this great community. During my 23 years in Hornell, I’ve been a board member and president of the St. James Foundation, Kiwanis Club, Hornell YMCA and Hornell Partners for Growth. I'm excited to serve and advocate for residents of the 4th Ward, and look forward to working with Mayor Buckley and the members of the Common Council.
I’m Dan, and I was elected as Alderman in November 2017. I am currently the Chairman of the Quality of Life/Hat Commission and Vice Chair of the Planning and Development Committee. I also serve on the Finance Committee. I enjoy serving the people of the 5th ward, resolving any concerns, and helping to see the City succeed. I own and operate my own business in the City. In my spare time, I enjoy golfing, but mostly, I enjoy spending time with my family.

Hello! I’m Lita and I’ve resided in Hornell for the past 12 years with my husband Andrew and children, Cayde and Paige. I’m employed as a Prevention Educator with Hornell Area Concern for Youth. I have always been interested in local government and have been alderwoman since September 2022. I serve on the Quality of Life, Planning and Development and Youth and Recreation Committees. I really enjoy serving as an Alderwoman and continuing to make Hornell a great place to live, work, and raise a family!
Hi, I’m Kevin, and I was elected as 7th ward Alderman in 2019. I currently serve on the Quality of Life/HAT Commission, Audit and Law & Ordinance Committees. I have always enjoyed helping people, and my favorite part of being an Alderman is getting to know people more, and helping resolve any issues in the neighborhood. I have met a lot of really great people and I enjoy giving back to my community. My interests are hunting, fishing, and riding my Harley. My greatest enjoyment is spending time with my son, attending his sporting events, or just doing whatever he may want to do.
Hi, I’m Jim. I serve on the Audit, Planning and Development Committees and Chair the Policy & Procedures and Youth & Recreation Committees. I have been on the council for 13 years and have lived on Crosby St. for over 35 years. I decided to run for Alderman because I want to give something back to the City, and being Alderman provides me with an opportunity to help improve quality of life and make Hornell a better place to live and raise a family. I am married with five children, enjoy baseball, reading about the Civil War, and collecting and visiting lighthouses.
Hello, I am Shannon Davis, I was born and raised in the Hornell Valley and have always been proud to call this my home. After returning from my U.S. Army service in 2000, I quickly transitioned from serving my Country to serving my community. While focusing on raising my three children in my beloved home town, I started coaching multiple youth and high school sports, which I enjoyed for close to 18 years.
I am currently the Director of Facilities for the Hornell City School District (where I have been employed for the past 15 years). I also hold the position of State Director for the New York State School Facilities Association (Southern Finger Lakes Chapter). I am proud to begin my tenure as Alderman of the 9th Ward and look forward to working with and for the wonderful citizens of the City of Hornell.
